FLORIDA MASSAGE LAWS & ETHICS:

Note: NCBTMB accepts this course as general hours, not stand-alone ethics.

Presented in discussion/lecture format, information in this law and ethics course assists therapists in understanding and acting upon legal and professional responsibilities attached to professional licensure and how those responsibilities relate to public safety. Discussion are based on Florida massage therapy law, ethics, and statutes associated with Chapter 480, Rules Chapter 64B7, and Chapter 456.

The course includes ethics and standards recognized by the Florida Board of Massage Therapy and NCBTMB for upholding professional standards that protect the integrity of the profession and safeguard individual clients' interests.

Know the laws that govern Florida massage licensure. Compare and apply board laws and rules to current business practices. Read discussions on sexual and other forms of misconduct, listing related penalties, inactive status, renewals, and rules about massage therapists in the armed forces, disciplinary actions, fee schedules, licensure renewal for therapists and establishments, related professional agencies, and board counsel and staff, including contact information.

MEDICAL MISTAKES AND ERRORS

This very controversial study of Medical Mistakes and Errors is required each renewal period by some state boards, including Florida Board of Massage Therapy. Learn about the massage therapist’s role in prevention of medical errors. Read the ways therapists apply their professional responsibilities to lessen errors in the workplace and to create professionally safe work environments. Stay informed through reading research done by governmental agencies and others, including ideas on solutions and defining “what are” legitimate errors and mistakes.

1hr HUMAN TRAFFICKING (A One-Hour Course for Massage Professionals)

This course was initially created for Florida massage therapists before NCBTMB allowed CE hours on this subject.

No LMT likes the idea that a fake massage business exists where they work or live. Few consider or know that the people working there are coerced and forced into modern-day slavery and wish they had a way out. Who would have thought that Florida health care professionals could play a role? This course discusses need-to-know information about human trafficking, such as its effects on the massage profession and how to make positive changes—also, defining and identifying victims and fake massage businesses, recognizing traffickers and their methods, differentiating between types of human trafficking, where to get help, knowing limits in helping, and more.
